When I read this prompt, I take it to mean a singular subject I would like to learn more about. Not necessarily ‘be good at’ but just know more about it.

Dude, music. Like yes, I understand the concept of music and how things can sound beautiful because people put certain notes together.

But my brain is definitely not that of a musician. Because how can you learn all those notes and then put them together to play a song. AND THEN have it memorized to play it over and over again?

Musicians and performers have all my respect.

This is only talking about music that someone else created. There is a whole other level of talent when you create the music.

I think a great example is Billie Eilish talking about music. I can’t find the clip, but she goes into detail about a music sheet that was projected on the wall. She talked about certain notes and how certain sequences work together. I understood close to nothing, but I do enjoy seeing someone get excited over something they’re passionate about.

So yes, I love to see videos of people playing a song from a different genre. Think violinists playing reggaeton (which I want in my wedding!). I love it when someone puts a spin on song that takes it to another level. For example, please watch this mom-son duo put a spin on Creep. I adore great mashups, especially when the songs seemingly don’t go together but they fit so well.

While I would love to learn more about music, my brain was not built to know about the intricacies of music or music theory. I’ve long accepted that being a world famous drummer was not in the cards for me. I will have to live vicariously through my Apple Music subscription and social media videos.

Day 4- Write about something you’d love to learn more about

I would love to learn more about natural disasters such as tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

I find myself reading about the boxing day tsunami at least once a year. This particular tsunami produced waves up to 100ft high. It is also the worst natural disaster in the history of Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Also, it was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Asia, and the third most powerful earthquake since seismography began.

Imagine the waves coming at you. The average height was 10m, that’s taller than my parent’s house in Batavia.

God forbid the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in our lifetime as well.

Day 4 : Language is just a bunch of scribbles

Have you ever wondered what makes a language a language? What makes a child’s scribbles different from the lines and symbols of an alphabet? One thing that has captured my attention as of late is linguistics. Over the years I’ve learned my fair share of languages my native languages are Spanish and English. I then went on to learn French through high school eventually earning a seal of biliteracy. Now in my early 20s, I am dabbling in German and Gaelic. I am fascinated by language and can’t wait to continue learning more about what gives these seemingly random phrases and jargon that comes out of our mouths meaning.
